John was a miser. Even though he was quite wealthy, he hated spending even one cent. His clothes were all worn and his house was falling apart with holes in the roof and floor. However John wouldn’t consider buying new clothes or paying somebody to fix his house. “It would cost too much”, he would complain.
One fine day John went for a walk with his friends. They were strolling along the bank of a river when John stumbled and fell into the river. Unfortunately John couldn’t swim so he began to struggle in the water.
His friends rushed to the water’s edge and reached out to him. “Give me your hand!” they shouted. Although John was in danger of drowning he wouldn’t give them his hand.
When John looked liked he was about to disappear beneath the water another friend stepped forward and called,” Quickly, take my hand.” Immediately John took his friend’s hand and was pulled onto the shore.
His friend laughed and said,” Don’t you understand John .If you say give, he will never give, but if you say take, he will always take.”
