The Lawyer’s Dog
In a village there was a butcher shop. One day a rather mischievous dog snuck into the shop and grabbed a string of sausages between its teeth. It ran off with the sausages before the stunned shopkeeper could do anything.
However the butcher recognized the dog. It belonged to his neighbor; a lawyer .The butcher decided he would visit the lawyer to seek compensation for his loss.
That evening he knocked at the lawyer’s door. The lawyer invited him in. “I have come to ask your legal advice,” said the butcher. ”Certainly,” replied the lawyer. “My question is this. If a dog comes into my shop and steals sausages is the owner of the dog responsible for my loss? “The butcher asked.
“Of course, the owner must pay for the sausages the dog stole,” replied the lawyer. “Then you must pay me $20, for your dog came into my shop today, and stole a string of sausages” the butcher said smugly.
The lawyer said nothing but took $20 out of his wallet and gave it to the butcher. The butcher walked home feeling very satisfied with himself. The next day the butcher received a letter. It was from the lawyer. It said,” Please find enclosed a bill for legal advice. $200
