The Driving Test
After Mike had graduated from university and started working he decided he wanted to buy a car. However, before he could do that he had to get a driving license. The test had two parts; a written test and an oral test. Being quite clever Mike passed the written test easily and felt very confident of passing the oral test.
He entered a small room and sat opposite the examiner. She asked a few simple questions which Mike answered with ease.
Then she asked,” If you are driving and there is a person and a dog standing in front of your car do you crash into the dog or the person? To Mike, the answer seemed obvious.” A person’s life is more important than a dog’s,” he thought. So, he told the examiner,” I would crash into the dog.” The examiner looked up at Mike and told him that he had failed the test. Before the shocked Mike could ask why, the examiner had left the room.
The next day Mike bumped into an old friend and told him about the oral test. When his friend heard what had happened he laughed and said,” The correct answer is not to crash into the dog or the person but to stop the car.”
