The City Man and the Country Man
Two men were traveling on a train. One man was from the city and the other from the country. They soon started chatting with each other. They discussed the differences between life in the city and life in the country. Then, the man from the city claimed that city people were cleverer and more capable than those from the country.
Not surprisingly, the man from the country felt uncomfortable when he heard these words for although he was not a proud man he didn’t like people to look down on him. He told the city man that perhaps city people weren’t as clever as they thought.
The city man was extremely confident so he proposed a bet. “If I ask you a question and you can’t answer, you give me a dollar and vice versa if I can’t answer your question. The man from the country considered this for a moment and then said “Since you are much cleverer than me it is an unfair bet. How about you give me two dollars if you can’t answer my question and I give you one dollar if I can’t answer your question.”
The city man was so sure of himself that he agreed at once. He even offered to let the country man ask the first question. The man from the country began,” What has three legs and can fly?” The city man, feeling rather embarrassed, had to admit that he didn’t know the answer so he handed the country man two dollars.
Next it was the city man’s turn. He asked the country man the same question.
The man from the country smiled and said he didn’t know either and gave the man from the city one dollar.
