The Dancing Monkeys
A prince had some monkeys trained to dance. Being great mimics of men’s actions, they were very good pupils, and when dressed in their fancy clothes and masks, they danced as well as anyone. Their performance was repeated often and became very popular. However, one day, a mischievous man took from his pocket a handful of nuts and threw them up on the stage. When the monkeys saw the nuts they forgot their dancing and became monkeys instead of actors. Pulling off their masks and tearing their costumes, they fought with one another for the nuts. The dancing came to an end with the laughter of the audience.
